Starting Something New

A new job means a hundred small unknowns. Where's the coffee machine, who actually makes the decisions in that meeting, how early does everyone really arrive. You can't control most of it. But there's one thing you can walk in already sure of.

What I wear on day one shouldn't be one more question mark. It should already feel like it belongs to the person I'm becoming, not the person I was in my last role. That's a strange kind of confidence to build — dressing for a version of yourself you haven't fully grown into yet.

I've found that the trick isn't buying an entirely new wardrobe to match a new title. It's choosing pieces considered enough to adapt with you — sharp for the first-week introductions, comfortable enough for the twelve-hour days that follow once the novelty wears off and the real work begins.
