Leading the Team

Leading a room is easier when you're not adjusting your blazer every ten minutes. Nobody tells you how much of leadership is physical — standing for the full length of a presentation, reaching across a table, sitting through a meeting that runs forty minutes over, all without once thinking about what you're wearing.

Early on, I bought clothes for how they looked in the mirror before a meeting. Now I buy them for how they hold up an hour into it. There's a difference between workwear that photographs well and workwear that actually works — that moves when you gesture, that doesn't need adjusting after you sit down, that still looks composed at 6pm the way it did at 9am.

Leading a team means people are watching how you carry yourself, not just what you say. I want that attention on the work, not on whether my sleeve is riding up. The right clothes disappear into the background of a long day, and that's exactly where I want them.
